As part of Riverkeeper’s annual River Sweep day of service, Friends of + POOL volunteers cleaned up the streets of Lower Manhattan leading up the East River.

Up and down the Hudson, 2,400 volunteers collected 32 tons of trash – in 1 day! The most common items were plastic bottles (get a reusable one guys!) but cigarette butts were a close second. Our group filled about twenty bags, which resulted in over 300 pounds of waste! It’s hugely important to catch the rubbish before it enters the system because trash in the streets becomes litter in the river!
A huge thank you to the amazing volunteers that came out to help clean the Hudson!
