Urban Swimming: A New Age for New York opens for City of Water Day

On July 16, 2022 we hosted a one-day, pop up exhibition for City of Water day, featuring urban swimming projects from around the world. More than 300 people visited the one-day exhibition and more than 700 engaged with the exhibition online. + POOL docents led four walking tours along the East River throughout the day.

By mounting this exhibition, we wanted to show New Yorkers how the urban swimming movement is gaining traction around the world and New Yorkers are not far behind! The event featured natural pools in the rivers and bays of cities around the world and the unique pieces of architecture that are facilitating public access.

As can now be seen in cities such as Paris, Copenhagen, and Brussels, reconnecting citizens in urban areas with the waterways surrounding them is now a vital part of public life and we look forward to working with the city to bring this to New York City soon.
