This past year we began exploring the use of solar hot water heating to warm the water of + POOL a bit to extend access beyond the typical 3 month swimming season in NYC. At the same time, these panels will create needed shade on the pool deck for the those hot summer dayyys.
To reduce the POOL’s energy requirements as much as possible, the design and engineering teams studied directions for how to incorporate 9,000sf of solar hot water heating panels onto + POOL. Ribbons, objects and floating planes made their way onto the pool deck before canopies were chosen as the preferred direction. The air puddles allow for a variety of shaded areas to suit the different pools while keeping the deck free for maximum tan-nage.
These studies show a variety of canopy variations are currently being explored for effectiveness of coverage and integration with potential PV technology.
