Share fluidion tech with our water friends

We’re excited to be working with fluidion on a forthcoming public project that will combine art and science, making creative use of their bacterial testing equipment recently introduced to the US! fluidion is responsible for water quality testing in the newly-opened-for-swimming canals in Paris and they work for the City of Paris to test bacteria three times a day in the canal (no filter necessary) to make sure it stays safe for swimming on the reg.

fluidion develops systems for sampling and analysis of water, and they’ve been working with our team of scientists from Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory at Columbia University to sample water from the East River for + POOL’s upcoming light project, which will — for the first time — visibly show water quality data in real-time. This is super cool because it will not only show everyone that the water is not as bad as people might think, it may even help inform future regulatory policies for swimmable water in urban environments. Who knew we’d be working on stuff like this??!

fluidion was in town to meet with us about the project and we invited our fellow water quality friends from NYC Water Trail Association and some others to come by and see just what this new tech can do.

And! As it happens their visit was also the day that the New York Times Editorial Board asked Why can’t manhattan have a beach? We’re working on it NYT!
