Our friends at Fontas Advisors ran a poll this month asking New Yorkers how they feel about new innovations that reimagine daily life in a post-pandemic New York City. An overwhelming 74% of respondents are in favor of safe and clean swimming in the Hudson and East River!
Making the rivers accessible for swimming is not just about building a piece of architecture; it’s about working with the many public agencies that protect us everyday to identify the best way to realize the first facility in NYC that allows New Yorkers to access their rivers for swimming. We are grateful to the many agencies and team members collaborating on this and look forward to bringing this transformative change for NYC.
When we started working on + POOL, the public perception of the river was not great, as evident in the Tribeca Studios film, Floating and Idea: The + POOL Story. We’ve surveyed public perception of NYC rivers over the past several years through community events, panel discussions, lectures, in-school education, and social media and over the years, public perceptions have changed, just as the river conditions have.
We’re excited to give New Yorkers back access to the water that surrounds them.
