Construction has begun!

What you’re seeing is the transformation of the pilot pool shell into a fully functioning floating river pool. Over the coming months, crews will retrofit the steel vessel with the pool structure itself, install the custom layered filtration system, and integrate the piping and mechanical components.  Once complete, the facility will be installed in its future home to undergo final testing on site at Pier 35.  After testing, phase 2 of construction will begin: final retrofitting for public use!  This includes building out the deck and public amenities that will support public occupancy.

This marks a major milestone! Not just because we’re building a pool, but because we’re building the first section of a new kind of public infrastructure. Every weld, pipe, filter, and fitting brings us one step closer to demonstrating that New Yorkers can safely swim in our rivers.
