It was a party on City of Water Day!
We celebrated City of Water Day with our annual Block Party, and for a few hours Rutgers Slip transformed into a place where neighbors gathered, kids ran through a giant water slide, families shared food, and everyone found a way to connect with the water—and each other. It was one of those days that reminds us how much joy can come from simply bringing people together.
There was plenty to do throughout the afternoon: Gotham Dance Theater got everyone moving, H2shO had us laughing through on-land water aerobics, and Miss Coney Island Mermaid stopped by to bring a little seaside magic to the neighborhood. Families cooled off with snow cones and ice cream (thank you, Assemblymember Grace Lee!), enjoyed river science experiments with Wonder Science, got their faces painted, tackled waterproof puzzles, and learned more about water safety and local community resources.
A huge thank you to all of the partners, volunteers, and sponsors who donated their time, energy, and resources to make this year’s Block Party possible. Days like these are a reminder that building a more swimmable city starts with building community.
