Team + POOL ran the 2018 NYC Marathon

We were super proud to once again be an official charity partner with the New York Road Runners for the 2018 marathon. We built a team with 6 of our most athletic friends who took to the boroughs on November 4th to run 26.2 miles of this city, all in support of +POOL.

They emailed/texted/called every single one of their friends to help support their effort — and support us!  We can’t thank them enough.

Meet the Runners

Fred Berger was born and raised in NYC and now works for WeWork. He’s also planning on inhaling all of the city’s beer, pizza and chicken wings as soon as he crosses the finish line. He says he’s running for + POOL “because the mission to make our city a more fair and safe place for all New Yorkers resonates with me.”

Camille Breslin is a one time + POOL intern who is now pursuing her MFA in Photography from Hunter College. “I’m running for + POOL because I strongly support the message that is being created. This will make it possible, not only for the public to have accessibility to swimmable water in the hot months, but to have pools that are environmentally proactive and sustainable. When this goal is reached, the mission that +POOL is driving will create a chain of positive reactions, hopefully causing global change in the way we view recreation and environmental progression.”  She’ll be listening to NPR during the run, as she’s an ‘old man at heart’  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Corbin Keech, an architect at Studio Gang, is coming all the way from Chicago for the big day, so someone better buy him a beer and burger after the race (please). “Besides just missing NY’s streets, I’m running because I believe in healthy cities, healthy humans, and healthy rivers!” he says.

Running in the marathon is a bucket list item for Nancy Correa, who plans to ~dive~ into a bowl of pasta and some red wine as soon as she finishes. She wants to teach her daughters “to aim for greatness, strength and always be inspiring … running 26.2 miles (at almost 40) is a pretty awesome way to do that!”

Lindsay Bryan (who planned her wedding and got married during training!!) always thinks about pancakes while running- Chocolate Chip Pancakes specifically. “Last year we hosted a marathon event with +Pool and I honestly couldn’t say no when I was asked.  I’m from Ohio and grew up swimming and skiing on a river. I love NYC and the thought of one day swimming in the East River is amazing,” she says.

Bjorn Trowery won’t be listening to any music, but is pumped to hear roar of the crowd. Same, Bjorn, same. “I love NYC, have lived here for 10+ years, and +POOL is aiming to help reimagine how New Yorkers interact with the city. I’d love to be part of making that happen.”

HUGE thanks to this guys for running in support of the river.  Together, they raised support for us to keep up our work on behalf of everyone who wants to swim in the river.
