We are thrilled to announce Marcos Reyes as the winner of this year’s Bluefish Next Steps Scholarship! Our Summer Bluefish program offers free swim lessons to youth ages 5-18 who would otherwise not have the opportunity to learn to swim. This year for the first time we offered a scholarship program to give one Bluefish graduate 16 more weeks of free lessons, helping them continue building skills and confidence well beyond the summer. 

The application process was highly competitive, and he truly stood out among all the applicants. In his own words: “Before joining Bluefish I didn’t know anything about swimming. I was afraid of the water, but the coaches were always very kind, encouraging me that it was possible with their patience and dedication. In those 16 lessons, I learned a lot. I am now able to float, crawl, and backstroke. For that reason, I want to continue with Bluefish to continue improving my skills. If I improve my skills, I can help Bluefish by being a volunteer.”
