Sponsored Projects
Heineken’s support of + POOL began with The Cities Project, launching a multi-pronged “Swim in the River” campaign. Together, we created a Tribeca Film Festival ad that opened every film screening in 2017, a film short featuring Neil Patrick Harris, a virtual reality experience, and NYC’s first real time water-quality monitor—a floating light sculpture in the East River.
The campaign engaged hundreds of thousands around the world in water quality issues, generated tens of thousands of petition signatures in support of + POOL, and helped secure the attention of City leadership, resulting in an official City RFP for an East River swim facility.
Heineken understands the value of water in its industry, and has become a leader in supporting this local project, helping raise awareness of water quality issues. Together, we’ve brought thousands of people to the river to enjoy a Heineken. Together, we’ve hosted a variety of events that celebrate our partnership and raise funds for Friends of + POOL, earned a SXSW innovation “Smart Cities” award nomination, won a City & State Corporate Social Responsibility Award for outstanding work in philanthropy.
Heineken has played a critical role in raising awareness of water quality issues and advancing the project from grassroots advocacy to establish a private public partnership with the City of New York and the New York State Governor’s Office. Thanks to Heineken’s ongoing support, + POOL is now entering construction phases and is closer than ever to giving New Yorkers a clean, safe place to swim in the river.
