SS27 NYFW + POOL x MIKAEL PONO

In concert with New York Fashion Week, + POOL’s Summer Pool Party will present an intimate fashion experience with Hawaii-born, NYC-based designer Mikael Pono and his newest collection, Genesis. The evening will explore a larger question at the heart of both Mikael Pono’s practice and + POOL’s mission: How can fashion and design exist in conversation with — rather than apart from — the natural world?

In addition to a runway show, the show will be tactile: guests will be able to learn about the natural fibers, botanical dyes, reclaimed materials, and traditional craft techniques that form the foundation of the work. An immersive presentation where fashion, nature, and environmental stewardship meet, guests will also have the opportunity to experience the collection up close, meet the designer, and explore the collection’s lookbook and materials following the runway show.

Through an intimate showroom-style experience, guests will be invited to discover the connection between the land, waterways, material sourcing, and the future of fashion in New York City. The presentation offers a rare opportunity to encounter the collection not simply as clothing, but as a study of place, material, craft, and our responsibility to the environments that sustain us.

About Mikael Pono:

Mikael Pono is a Hawaii-born, NYC-based designer whose work explores the relationship between fashion and nature. Rooted in his connection to the land and ocean, his practice centers on natural fibers, botanical dyes, reclaimed materials, and traditional craft.

Collaborating with artisans, gardens, and land stewards throughout New York and around the world, Mikael Pono transforms materials gathered from the natural world into contemporary garments. His work asks how fashion can exist not apart from nature, but in conversation with — and responsibility to — it.
