+ POOL

Some insanely awesome sixth graders studying green infrastructure proposed their own + POOLs

After learning about the ways in which + POOL is working to combat CSOs (sewer outfalls), create a public recreational space and educate on water quality, five teams of students created some amazing design ideas that incorporate public space and education into their own massive water filters.

Each of the teams came up with some pretty great green infrastructure design initiatives to better our city. We invited Chrissy Remein from River Keeper, and Julie Welch from SWIM Coalition to join Dong, Kara and Jeff of + POOL, as jurists to evaluate each of the projects based on their concept, feasibility and innovation. These kids have a lot of incredible ideas that may just have to steal once we start building. Underwater elevator, anyone?

Designs below!

Team 1

Inspired by + POOL and ice cream (who can argue with that?), this cone-shaped filter makes every effort to mitigate fish capture and includes a public garden where anyone can plant seeds.

Team 2

This team incorporated not only an environmental museum, but an elevator that takes visitors down to the bottom of the river to see just what we’re putting into the river.

Team 3

Nature is the inspiration of this design, with a park to relax in—all while you help clean the river.

Team 4

This circular design comes with an infinity pool for adults – why didn’t we think of that?!

Team 5

This floating design incorporates a mermaid kiddy pool and soccer field. SO GOOD.
