Nominated for INDEX: Design To Improve Life Award

We started looking for other avenues of fundraising and community building, and stumbled upon an organization in Copenhagen, Denmark that ran out of the Danish Design Centre. Called INDEX, they held an event called “Design to Improve Life.” There was an awards component, but even more importantly, an opportunity to spend a week meeting with various stakeholders, community members and investors that could provide advice on the project. Copenhagen was incredibly important for + POOL because it was one of the only cities in the world that had successfully done something about their sewer overflow problems. Now, because of a combination of incredibly civic leadership and architectural projects by people like Bjarke Ingles and Julien de Smedt, swimming in the rivers is a staple part of life.

We applied, really not expecting to hear anything, and were nominated for the award alongside Skillshare and Mine Kafon. Within a couple months, we were on our way to Copenhagen. We spent days meeting those that played an integral part to cleaning up the harbour, presented the project to a slew of investors, participated in a panel discussion with the Global Economic Forum, and had a productive meeting with the US Embassy in Copenhagen.

We didn’t win the award, but we got tons of needed advice and were super thankful to get it in Copenhagen of all places.
