Mikkel Shroder - Copenhagen Denmark
What’d you put on your tile?
I used the tile to ask my amazing girlfriend to marry me. The message on the tile is in Danish, and means “Nadia, Will you be mine forever? – Mikkel.”
What interests you most about the project?
Years ago the city of Copenhagen cleaned the city harbour – and we have been able to swim, row, and kayak through the city ever since. The harbour has become one of the most popular public spaces in the city. + POOL’s vision to do the same for New York City is what I find most interesting.
What is your favorite part of the design of + POOL?
The walls and the technology in it – the idea of building walls that strain all the nasty stuff away. Leaving only clean swimmable water is amazing!
What’s your favorite burrito spot?
BarBurrito in Copenhagen – They basically brought the burrito to Copenhagen.
Are you a member, supporter or volunteer of other organizations and projects that you wanna list?
I support UNICEF – and in these times with thousands of kids living in fear of bombs and attacks in Syria, I find UNICEF’s work more important than ever.
Do you have any rad ideas for public space in New York City?
Biking lanes! There is no better way to get around and to experience a city than by bike. But let’s face it, riding a bike in Manhattan is risky to say the least 😉
How did you hear about + POOL?
I was fortunate enough to meet part of the + POOL team back in 2013, when they were nominated for an INDEX: Design to improve Life Award. After spending a few days with the guys in Copenhagen I was totally in love with the project – and bought my first piece of a tile. I had just met Nadia and knew that we had something special, so the first tile actually said “Nadia + Mikkel.”
